Are you fed up of getting constant thrush infections? Well you need to find out why you are getting them so frequently, don’t you? Thrush is a very common disease and every one gets it at least once in their lifetime. If you have thrush once it can be extremely uncomfortable and itchy for the person concerned even if you are using the remedy for thrush.

The disease is caused by fungus called as Candida Albicans. The fungus can cause infections of any part of the body, but it’s more commonly seen in the mouth where it is called as oral thrush, or it seen on the vagina, anus, or penis. Thrush can affect any one but it’s commonly seen in infants, toddlers, children, and older adults who have a compromised immune system. Healthy adults and children can throw off the infection very well with the help of medications but it can cause lingering and widespread disease in adults who have a weaker immune system.

Most doctors have a ready remedy for thrush and you can also opt for home care measures, as well as naturopathic remedies to keep the infection under control.

Allopathic remedies – Topical antifungal medications are given to infants and children and adults who get recurrent fungal infections. Doctors may prescribe specific groups of antifungal agents like polyenes, azoles, and an anti fungal mouthwash too. The medication is usually safe for children but please do be careful regarding dosage as some of the medication causes liver damage. Oral antifungal medication can also be prescribed for adults but it’s not recommended for adults who have weaker immune system.

Naturopathic remedies – Many doctors recommend a specific diet to curb a really widespread infection called as the Candida diet. The fungus thrives on sugar and it’s a good idea to boost your immune system by cutting out sugar from your diet as well as eating more of a nutritious diet for optimum health. A few home remedies are:

  1. Acidophilus tablets – Acidophilus tablets are readily available in any natural food supermarkets and you should start immediately with them. These tablets contain the bacteria which maintain a balance in your body to prevent infections. They will not cure the infection completely but will definitely help to bring it under control. Naturopaths recommended breaking open tablets and applying to infected areas directly for the best effect.
  2. Calendula tincture- Although I’m not very sure about this it is recommended by homeopaths as the best alternative to control a Candida infection.
  3. For breast feeding mom a mixture of tea tree oil in coconut oil applied to the nipples for fifteen minutes and then rinsed off is said to have the best effect to control the infection. Tea tree oil is a really potent antifungal agent and it works well with coconut oil. Be sure you rinse off the solution completely before breast feeding.
  4. Upping your intake of yoghurt can also help to control a yeast infection very well.

I hope these remedies for thrush have helped you out, but it’s always best to get yourself checked thoroughly with a doctor for any type of infections to prevent later problems.
