In ages past, a pale skin pointed to wealth and high rank. Only women of the upper classes could afford to keep their skin pale. They did not have to work on the land, as ordinary women who toiled in wind, rain or sun.
A pale skin was, for a long time, considered as an element of beauty. Through the ages, women have done a lot to make their skin as light as possible. If you google, you’ll find many examples of how great names from history tried to fulfill this beauty ideal. Like Poppea, wife to the Roman emperor Nero, who was reputed to only bathe in the milk of female donkeys.
In the nineteenth century, pale skin was out for a while. Everyone wanted a tan, and the more tanned, the more beautiful.
Recently, there is again a trend to have pale skin – just look at all those models on the catwalks.
Aside from the question if a pale skin is really healthy or beautiful, there are some things you can do to make your skin whiter.
It goes without saying that you’ll need to stay out of the sun if you want to protect your skin. You can also get protection from clothing. Long sleeves will protect the arms. If you prefer, you can even wear (light) gloves. The face can be shielded by wearing a (straw) hat or using a parasol (if you don’t think that’s way to).
If you have to go out, it is advisable to use a sun block crème of the highest SPF (sun protection factor) you can find. You can even apply a foundation crème over the sun block, once it is absorbed in the skin. Choose a foundation that is a few shades lighter than your own skin color. Just remember that people need sunlight to produce vitamin D. Being healthy is more important that a pale skin!
Another way to make your face look whiter, is to use talcum powder. Our grandmothers used it too. Talcum can hide many failures in the skin, but the trick is to apply it so that you don’t look like a clown, who’s fallen into a pile of cornflower!
Another old fashioned home remedy is the use of oatmeal. If you rub your hands in oatmeal a couple of times a day, your hands will stay white and soft.
Milk is really a great means to make your skin paler. Also lemon is used, together with lots of water. Squeeze some lemons in water, and rinse your face (or other body parts) with it at least three times a day. Warning: don’t try again, if you see that your skin reacts with burning or itching.
As dark hair contrasts to white skin, you can think about coloring your hair. There are lots of products around, all easy to apply. Take dark brown or black, and your skin will automatically look paler. Same goes for nail polish. If you apply dark colors, your fingers pale.

I think using things like talcum powder to make your face pale then surely it won’t match the rest of your skin? Unless you cover yourself in it

Danny, women know how to use powder (whether it’s calcium or any other). You just have to be very careful to apply the powder to the parts that are visible (i.e. the neckline here).

I’m still putting lemon , milk , and yogurt on my face and it’s paling my face very well. The lemon is great for your skin which is great though it can make skin very dry so remember to cream your skin a lot!! good luck everyone!!

How much of lemon, milk and yogurt do you need or does it not matter?
[Reply]
Yes, how much lemon, milk, and yogurt is needed for the face mask?
[Reply]
It doesn’t matter. I tried it with about three t spoons each. I used some for my neck and arms. Well I had to add more but it still worked! XD
[Reply]
I use about 5tsp. Lemon juice and 1/8 cup of milk, with 1/8 cup of yoghurt… if you have sensitive skin, mix in 2 tbsp. Moisturizer. ;-D
[Reply]
Does it matter what kind of yogurt you use? what if its strawberry yogurt? I really want to try this.
[Reply]
What kind of yogurt do you use, I use like the skin products they sell at Asian stores. But I want something that works really well.
[Reply]
Lemon juice or like mash up or cut up lemon? how long do you keep it on?
[Reply]
hey, try daisy mask, it really lightens the skin
pick some daisy heads, boil them in some water, after that filter the water, let it get cold a bit, then add some rose water and some honey in the water, stir it for a while and put some on your face and neck with a piece of cotton.btw it’s not recommended for pregnants, and you gotta keep it in refrigerator and it stays fresh for a week, but it really works.
and please don’t try those asian skin whitening products they can break out the skin, even burn it, they’re not produced in well conditions

Do you use plain yogurt or is vanilla yogurt fine?
[Reply]
These are BRILLIANT ideas! Are there any more face-mask ideas for people with sensitive skin?? Thanks
[Reply]
Wow, so many ways to lighten skin! Any more from anyone?
I’ve also heard of lemon and water, without the yoghurt. Does this work? And if so, should you balance out the amount or do you need more water or something?
I’m Chinese and I live in England so it’s hard hearing everyone saying they want a tan. I can’t seem to find SPF70 suncream at the moment either. My aunties who live in Hong Kong have beautifully pale skin, but they have a lot more access to beauty products than here.
Please any more suggestions?
Thanks so much!

I was born with vampire like pale skin. It sucked a lot sometimes. When I was in school people made fun of me because they’ve seen the movie powder. Also when I wanted to go to the beach with friends I would turn beat red after 15mins. I had on protection on but, it didn’t help. After I met my ex boyfriend, all he wanted to do is go to the beach. My skin started to turn another color. It wasn’t tan but I would go from red, orange and then yellow. Recently I have been trying to get my pale skin back. All these remedies work. The biggest thing is to stay away from the sun. If you do happen to go into the sun and get burned then wear clothing over your whole body so it will help take away the sting, but also when your skin peels, the skin under the dead skin is a little lighter. Advise don’t keep doing this to get pale quick. It’s not healthy for your body. Remember it takes a few years for your skin to pale. Also carrots are great to help whether you eat them or you use it as a wash. Also eating strawberry keeps your skin healthy and hydrated. Pale skin doesn’t produce oil if any at all so your skin will dry out.

A really great way to lighten your complexion is by mixing lemon and cucumber juice. It helps remove tan and it reduces melanin from pigmenting in the skin. Leave the mixture on for 20 minutes and rinse off with cold water. It works in 2weeks!!

How do I get the rest of my body as white or pale as my face. Plz some tell me!!!!
[Reply]
Do I apply just lemon juice, or cut lemons? Is lemon juice as effective as natural lemons?
[Reply]
Plain Yogurt but vanilla is fine too. Nothing flavored for it will irritate the skin. Good luck everyone!

I’m a redhead that lives in Florida. I know it’s a bad state to live in because of the sun. I used to be very pale but now that I’ve gotten in the sun more often, my skin is sort of red. How do I get it back to my normal very pale skin?
